Forgot to say I have Bristol/SW connections as did my BA & PhD at UoB in school of modern languages & worked at Defra Bristol on 25-year environment plan & Blue School Wells while living in Glastonbury - such great stuff going on in Avon area!

01:06:46
Hi I’m Ben Crowley, currently researching education leadership as it relates to climate change and environmental breakdown at University of Bristol.

is everyone else able to see slides?

01:10:41
Yes. Have you made Zoom full-screen, Sara?

01:11:34
Good to see a link to Eco-Schools, a great way of engaging pupils with climate change and social justice/climate justice issues

01:11:57
wonderful wonderful important points from Sam - totally agree!

01:12:24
Link Climate Education with the teaching of the SDGs

01:12:32
Couldn't agree more Sam.Following our free Changing Climates curriculum, we've created a free Equality & Justice curriculum, helping to explore the social justice issues in our societies and find clear and tangible links between climate change and social justice, and understanding the intersectionality. As with all our programmes, a discussion based curriculum for 5-18 developing critical thinking, empathy and systems thinking skills:www.thoughtboxeducation.com/equalitycurriculum

01:13:16
Fantastic examples of engagement with pupils and linking with different subjects. Thank you

01:13:25
Absolutely agree with linking to the SDGs. Great doc from Oxfam supporting schools who want to do this https://policy-practice.oxfam.org/resources/the-sustainable-development-goals-a-guide-for-teachers-620842/

01:14:13
Thank you Julie Brown for the link :)

01:14:53
Easier than you think to embed SDG within primary curriculum anyway. I’m worked with some local schools to do so - happy to discuss paulamalone@energysparks.uk

01:15:14
Some really interesting projects being developed in the Bristol area with links to SDGs from Global Goals Centre - https://www.globalgoalscentre.org/

01:15:25
Super inspiring Sam - a strong model for others to learn from and so great to hear a snapshot of your approach. Thank you for sharing and inspiring.Following on from many ideas raised in Sam's presentation about attachment, eco anxiety and intersectionality, I'll share that ThougtBox is running a CPD training this Thursday (Earth Day) for educators on 'How to create safe spaces for brave conversations'.The session will explore how to respond to eco-anxiety, explore the science and emotions of climate change, respond to the intersectionality of climate and social justice issues, and discuss / explore how to bring big conversations safely into the classroom to move from anxiety to empowerment. Some free bursary places still available:www.thoughtboxeducation.com/courageous-conversations-cpd

Sam ..lots of other places to find support for climate action, one of the SDGs e.g. https://www.globalgoals.org/13-climate-action

01:16:50
Question to Sam :Does your organization plan to attend COP26 ?If yes, my organization (a French NGO) will organize The Climate Education Summit there : I would be very interested to talk with you

01:18:10
Practical Action STEM challenges all link to the SDGS www.practicalaction.org/STEM. To see where these and other resources fit the UK curricula go to www.practicalaction.org/science-curriculum

01:19:21
Hi Quynh. We don't currently have any plans to attend. But we'd be very interested to!

01:19:59
Sam, it’s great to hear about you are connecting children’s human rights and climate justice by realising children’s participation rights in your school. This might be of interest - I’ve been working with just over 100 children to ensure our youngest citizens’ voices are included in Scotland’s Climate Assembly- the first citizens’ assembly to have directly involved children. This is the children’s final film to the adult members which outlines their calls to action (due to COVID19, the whole process has taken place online). Climate education is one of their key calls: https://youtu.be/vQ8uhnyJP3Q - would be keen to chat more about your rights-based approach! Katie, Children’s Parliament in Scotland

01:20:04
Yes lots of scope for links with MFL as environment is compulsory topic for most GCSE and A Level boards - also for bilingual heritage speakers to get involved with translating/interpreting projects

01:20:21
It's great to see lots of sharing and networking happening in the chat! Do remember to use the Q&A to direct questions to panelists for the panel discussion at the end.

01:21:50

01:31:51
Thanks for all, evertything is very interesting. I think that the curriculum should also integrate the extraction of natural resources in the global south, in order to understand social justice more.

01:31:53
Hi Ana I. Could you tell us a bit more about your context, please?

01:36:26
Ok Sam!I'll send you an email

01:40:57
Yes, Kate - should be a link to the recording via the website

Excellent presentations 👍🏻👍🏻

I guess what the nature relations group are arguing is that we need to have a different way of thinking about nature too. We are nature - often forgotten.

02:05:24
Will share this with our BEd students - excellent.

02:09:06
Reminder to type your questions in the Q&A box for the discussion at the end.

A pleasure and hope it's useful.

thank you Christina, you might want to download the Spot a Bee App, a citizen science project that aims to understand bee habitats, more details and educational resources at spotabee.buzz :-)

02:24:44
Great examples from your classroom, Christina. Lovely to see what is happening with 5 to 6 year olds!

02:30:23
Hi Elizabeth. We use the Changing Climates Curriculum from ThoughtBox in Year 1. Then each year group is responsible for planning their project - which we try to link with a topic or English book. Reception are reading 'Yucky worms' and are learning about composting. They may make a wormery for their final project.

02:32:58
Thank you Lauren - fantastic job!

02:33:07
Thanks Everyone - fantastic to hear all that is going on
